“KILLED BY DEAF – A PUNK TRIBUTE TO MOTӦRHEAD” announced

Heavy metal and punk rock! It’s fair to say that these two loud tribes now have a lot in common – they often merge with each other, are hardly distinguishable from each other, and produce their own bastard offspring. But that wasn’t always the case. There was actually a time when fists were used more often than greetings and beer was thrown rather than shared – except when it came to Motörhead. That was the only band we could all agree on. The only band that really belonged to us!

But while Motörhead‘s impact on metal has long been recognized, their influence on punk, especially the second wave after the Sex Pistols, should not be underestimated. Cause and effect: it’s that simple. And the same is true of hundreds, thousands of other bands, all of which became faster, dirtier, louder, and better because of Motörhead. Nowhere is this more evident than in punk rock. And that’s because Motörhead were basically a punk rock band.

Lemmy once said, “The punks loved us. The only reason we didn’t belong to them was because we had long hair, so of course we had to be heavy metal. That was the mindset. But a lot of kids listened to us without seeing a picture and therefore thought we were a punk band.”

The fourteen tracks on this cleverly titled album, “Killed By Deaf,” feature a loving tribute to Motörhead from some of the biggest and most respected punk rock bands. Greats such as Rancid, Pennywise, Lagwagon, GBH, The Bronx, and FEAR all contribute raw versions of their favorite Motörhead songs… and up-and-coming newcomers like Slaughterhouse are also included, because let’s be honest: Motörhead always loved and supported the underdogs.

It’s no coincidence that Lemmy and Motörhead are honored with their own section in the Punk Rock Museum in Las Vegas. Long before they covered “God Save The Queen” by the Sex Pistols on “We Are Motörhead” and long before they wrote “R.A.M.O.N.E.S” for the album “1916” as a tribute to New York’s elite, Motörhead shared the stage with bands like The Damned, as they would do many times over the years. Hell, Lemmy even joined The Damned (when they were still called The Doomed), albeit briefly, playing a few now-notorious concerts and taking over bass duties on a few studio tracks. So it’s only fitting that the only non-Motörhead song on this album comes from the time when he teamed up with them again in 2002 to record a previously unreleased and rousing version of The Damned’s classic “Neat Neat Neat.”

Release date is October 31st, 2025.
