Review BURNING WITCHES “Inquisition”

Burning Witches has been casting a spell on metalheads for ten years. The band started in Brugg, Switzerland in 2015, and to date, the five-piece has released five albums. Their new record, titled “Inquisition, ” is now available at record stores and includes a 12-song tracklist, as well as an intro and outro.

“Sanguini Hominum” is the choral intro that leads to the heaviest track on the record. “Soul Eater” is a massive metal track. Fast and full of thrash metal references, the first track on the album is a blistering ode to heavy metal that includes Laura Guldemond’s wild screams. I had to get used to the latter though.

Her voice enhances the intensity of Burning Witches’ mid-tempo tracks, including the pulsating “Shame,” where her vocal performance is noteworthy. And let’s not forget the chorus, which is perfect for fans to join in on during upcoming live shows.

The title track is a power metal anthem that is equipped with excellent twin guitar parts and furious solos. “Inquisition” is a powerful, dark song followed by the more anthemic “High Priestess of the Night.” The galloping bridge is a great addition to this moderately paced metal tune, bringing us to the raging “Burn in Hell.”

Burning Witches shift the pace again, delivering a stunning headbanger before the gloomy “Release Me” unveils the dark side of “Inquisition.” “Release Me” is a ballad that showcases the soulful side of Burning Witches before “In For the Kill” brings headbanging back on the agenda.

“Mirror, Mirror” is the actual finale. It’s another crushing metal song with roaring riffs and a hard-hitting rhythm section. The album concludes with “Maus Maga,” a choral piece that draws parallels to the opening of “Inquisition.”

Burning Witches’ sixth album exemplifies a band that, after a decade of perseverance in the heavy metal genre, has not lost its appetite for excellence. Lineup changes couldn’t stop them from rising. In fact, The new album is a strong, well-crafted metal record full of adrenaline and dedication.
