Review BRUNHILDE ‘In Love Yours Hate’

Brunhilde is an unusual name for a rock band, but it may well be the thing that puts the German powerhouse on the map. The band was formed in 2013 by singer Carolin Loy and Kurt Bauereiss. Returning to the band name: Brunhilde is actually a female surname, but this is not why the band chose it. It was more the inspiration from the character Brunhilde in Quentin Tarantino movies that led the two artists from Fürth to make this decision.

The latest release from Germany’s rock force is titled ‘In Love Yours Hate’. The band recorded 12 new songs, with the title track coming first. It is a good example of what to expect from Brunhilde. It’s a rebellious fusion of rock and metal with a punk spirit.

The songs on ‘In Love Yours Hate’ aren’t big epics. In fact, only one song, ‘Wait’, exceeds the four-minute mark, and this is mainly due to the slow and sinister intro. Another song that follows a similar approach is ‘Halali’, which alternates between horn-driven moments and sonic outbursts with an evil undertone but is kept much shorter.

The other songs are short and intense, like the up-tempo ‘Gossip Girl’. But the eerie ‘Souls Unchained’ also has a lot to offer, combining an intense vibe with thunderous riffs and good hooks.

The throbbing ‘Surface’ is an excellent headbanger, followed by the vigorous ‘Hit and Run’, which allows the band to score again. ‘Like Miss God’ has more of a punk spirit, and what connects all the songs on ‘In Love Yours Hate’ is a great sense of melody. These melodies are not cheesy or overly prominent, but they help each track unfold, creating excitement even when listening to the album for the first time. Last but not least, there is ‘Who the Fuck’, which rounds off the album perfectly. This final track showcases Brunhilde’s unique musical vision and attitude, which serves as the foundation for their latest work.

Brunhilde’s rise is based on energy and quality. The band offers very authentic and rebellious music, making listening to them a real experience. Brunhilde wanted their latest album to sound exactly the way it does when it blasts out of the speakers, and it is the next step for Caro and Kurt in establishing their place in the German rock and metal scene.
