Review INGLORIOUS “V”

The UK rock band Inglorious formed in 2015 and has been busy ever since. After dropping their self-titled debut album in 2016, they released a few more, and “V” is, not surprising, their fifth studio album, not counting the release of a longplayer with cover versions of popular songs, “Heroine.”

Now, let’s focus on “V,” which marks the band’s return from a hiatus. The new album also features Colin Parkinson, who has returned to the band. He and lead singer Nathan James are the main songwriters of the new album, which features great rock songs bursting with energy and soulful moments too, like “Believe.”

Most of the songs are upbeat rockers, starting with “Testify.” The blues-soaked opener is a great introduction to the album, as it reflects what to expect from the rest of “V”. A similar dynamic, but sounding slightly harder, is found in “Eat You Alive.” It’s a throbbing song that fuses melody and heaviness. Then, the grooving “Devil Inside” shows the darker side of Inglorious.

The heart of rock ‘n’ roll beats strong in “Say What You Wanna Say.” The song exhales a rebellious spirit, and the chorus allows for immediate sing-alongs. Inglorious also add a great flow to the album with songs that showcase a wider range. First, there’s the bass-driven “Stand,” followed by the galloping riff of “In Your Eyes.” “End of the Road” is another thunderous moment on the album, which ends with “Power of Truth,” a song that starts softly and easy-going. The second half, though, is a mighty rock song that encapsulates Inglorious’s musical approach in one tune.

“V” sounds dynamic and vital. The hiatus seems to have led to newfound energy, which is evident in their newest effort. These ten songs are well-crafted melodic rockers that cross over into melodic metal. “V” is an entertaining album that reveals its musical charm immediately and still has enough to offer for a second, third, or fourth listen.
