Review BUCKCHERRY “Roar Like Thunder”

What better way to kick off an album called “Roar Like Thunder” than with a roaring thunder? That was exactly the thought that crossed Buckcherry‘s mind when they were deciding how to start their newest effort. Two years after launching “Vol. 10”, the California-based rockers are taking the next step with “Roar Like Thunder”. It is their eleventh studio album and another powerful rock record.

Led by founding member Josh Todd and joined by Stevie Dacanay, Billy Rowe (guitar), Kelly LeMieux (bass), and Francis Ruiz (drums), Buckcherry proves that, 26 years after their debut, they still have plenty of firepower.

Following the title track is a song called “When the Sun Goes Down” — a thumping rock song with an explosive chorus. It’s apparent while listening to the pounding “Come On” that bands like AC/DC have been and are an inspiration for Buckcherry, before the band pumps some iron with “Talkin’ About Sex.”

Next is the funky rocker “Blackout,” followed by “I Go Boom.” The latter is a groovy rock song with a horn section that makes it stand out from the other tracks. “Set It Free” is a good, albeit average, rock song, followed by “Hello Goodbye.” With a bluesy vibe, it is one of the calmer moments on an album full of bursting rock songs. One of these roaring rockers is “Machine Gun.” A throbbing beat and grooving bass provide a foundation for the guitars and vocals to shine. Last but not least is “Let It Burn,” the up-tempo finale of the album. It’s a straightforward song and a badass headbanger.

“Roar Like Thunder” lives up to what the title promises. Buckcherry has released a powerful, thunderous hard rock album that showcases a band that hasn’t lost any energy in three decades of rocking. “Roar Like Thunder” is a vivid, dynamic release that fits perfectly with the upcoming summer season.
