The German punk band Feine Sahne Fischfilet have a new album coming out on Friday, May 30. It is the sixth album from the Rostock-based band and a next step for them.
Two years after launching “Alles glänzt”, the new release has the potential to solidify the band’s role in the German music scene. Their last two offerings climbed to third place in the German long-player charts, and “Wir kommen in Frieden” has the potential to reach a similar position. However, this isn’t why Feine Sahne Fischfilet started making music. For them, music is a matter of attitude and heart. It’s a way to make a statement against racism, sexism, and homophobia, and the new album is the next chapter.
The album opens with the title track, which was the first song the band revealed. It’s a captivating punk rock song with an infectious bass line and the band’s signature horn section. The group crafted a catchy chorus that allows for immediate sing-alongs. It’s an excellent way to kick off the album, which continues with “Endlich auf Reise.” It’s another song with serious lyrics and an “ohohohoh” chorus.
“15 Jahre” shows that Feine Sahne Fischfilet’s lyrics extend beyond political themes. The song is a retrospective of friendship and teenage years. But it is also a review on a time when Monschi was almost beaten to death, one day before his mother’s birthday. The throbbing “Awarenesskonzept”, addressing the self-announced moral leaders which brings you to “Grüße aus dem Neandertal,” another lead single. It’s a punk rock song with a thumping groove that becomes addictive the first time you listen to it.
“Wir kommen in Frieden” features two songs, one of which is “Manchmal finde ich dich scheisse,” with a guest appearance. For this song, Feine Sahne Fischfilet invited Finch who is also seen as a kind of enfant terrible. Collaborating with a punk band was surprising, but it also turned out well, and the play on words adds to the overall effect. The song has a love/hate theme with a twinkle in the eye.
Friendship and loyalty are topics addressed in “Gut, dass ich weiß,” followed by the album’s most emotional moment. “Haut an Haut” is an emotive song, dedicated to Monschi’s daughter, and the trumpet adds a lot of melancholy.
Following such an emotion-filled moment, the upbeat “Besoffen sein” brings back the punk rock groove, while “Jungs und Kokain” is a thought-provoking song. With Miss Platnum, the track contributes to the album’s broader musical approach, creating a great flow from start to finish.
With the pounding “Keine Panik” and “Eine rauchen wir noch,” Feine Sahne Fischfilet placed two snappy songs at the end of the album, both of which are perfect finale to a powerful album.
On the one hand, Feine Sahne Fischfilet pick things up where they left off with “Alles glänzt” and, at the same time, give “Wir kommen in Frieden” its own twist. Sticking fully to their signature sound, the band underlines with the new effort their role in German punk rock, releasing an album with unleashed power, anthemic melodies, and attitude.
