H.E.A.T. is one of the leading melodic metal bands these days, and like many other bands from Sweden, this five-piece from Väsby in Uppland shows a great sense for catchy melodies. Combined with some rocking guitars, H.E.A.T. present songs that have an earworm factor and at the same time a certain heaviness that makes their music an interesting experience for a wider fanbase.
With “Welcome to the Future”, the band presents their latest effort, a twelve-track endeavor that takes you into the world of powerful melodic rock and metal. One of H.E.A.T.’s greatest assets are their vocalists. Whether it’s Erik Grönwall or Kenny Leckremo, who returned to the band in 2020, it’s their voices that set H.E.A.T. apart from many other bands in the same genre.
“Disaster” is the title of the opener, and it is anything but a disaster. The song sets the stage for the album in a great way. Keyboards that add both density and melody, powerful riffing, and great vocals are the main ingredients of the song that showcases the band at their best.
The great thing about the album is that it doesn’t have a weak spot. You can drop the needle wherever you want on this record, you will always be rewarded with excellent melodic metal with roots in the 80s. There is the rocking “Running to You” while “In Disguise” is a great melodic rock anthem reminiscent of early Europe.
“The End” is another big swing on the album, and it is Bon Jovi’s “Runaway” that may have inspired the band during some parts of the song. The pounding “Rock Bottom” is next and passes the baton to “Children of the Storm”. The latter is one of the best songs on the album. It combines all the trademarks that H.E.A.T. stand for. A great flow, well done hooks and an irresistible chorus is what drives “Children of the Storm” and makes it a pleasant moment for the listener.
“Tear it Down (R.N.R.R.)” is another melodic rock anthem on the album. Keeping it a bit darker, the song spreads a dramatic and atmospheric vibe while a strong bass line provides the heartbeat for this stomper.
“Welcome to the Future” is a next great release from the band from the north. It is an album that spreads joy and comes with melodies that allow for immediate sing-along. The first spin of this release enables you to dive into this world of melodic rock and metal that will provide entertainment for a long time, as there is enough to explore. And besides, it’s not easy not to get addicted to these melodies. Well done.
