Review BLEED FROM WITHIN “Zenith”

Formed in 2005, Bleed From Within hail from Glasgow, Scotland. The band have released six full- length albums, and their latest effort, “Zenith,” is waiting impatiently in the starting blocks. The five-piece started out as a metalcore outfit, and that foundation remains to this day. However, the band have evolved their style and added some modern metal elements to their music, which is very much present on “Zenith”.

The first song to challenge your eardrums is ‘Violent Nature’, a brutal song and a slap in the face. The merciless approach continues with ‘In Place Of Your Halo’. The latter offers the same level of musical fury, but relies more on groove, with the sound of bagpipes being the surprising moment of this stomping track.

After such an excursion into the moderately paced aspect of their music, Bleed From Within combines both facets in the title track. Some clean vocals in the chorus show a modern metal influence before the metalcore galloper picks up speed again.

Mentioning the special moments brings us to the end of the album. “Edge Of Infinity” is the closer and the acoustic guitar moment is something that illustrates the range of sounds the album has to offer. Mainly clean vocals, a piano section and an atmospheric approach is what makes the last track of the album a special moment. Although the song gets heavier as it goes on, it is still a special track on ‘Zenith’.

“A Hope in Hell” is a blend of aggressiveness and a melodic chorus with clean vocals as well. It kind of reflects what the title indicates. The way the song is sketched supports the lyrical angle, which is about getting up and moving on even after falling into adversity.

Another interesting song is “Immortal Desire”, and not only because of the guest appearance of Mastodon’s Brann Dailor. The beginning of the song with its operatic vocals is unexpected, works perfectly in a way and is a feature that returns occasionally during this 4-minute blast.

“Zenith” is Bleed From Within’s most mature album to date. Their new effort contains a lot of intense music, has great versatility and marks the next step in the band’s journey. Not denying the roots and at the same time moving forward in a great way is what “Zenith” echoes in every song and solidifies Bleed From Within’s position in contemporary metal.
