On March 7, the sophomore album “Sores of Our Time” by Hamburg, Germany -based blackened post-metal outfit Druma will be released via Moment of Collapse Records. Today, the band has unveiled the second single from the upcoming album, entitled “First World”.
Building on the foundation laid by their debut, “Dawning”, this quintet has crafted a work that feels both expansive and tightly refined, solidifying their place among the genre’s heavyweights. Fans of The Ocean, Cult of Luna, Amenra, and Gaerea will find much to admire here, as Druma continues to blend atmospheric grandeur with crushing intensity. The band’s experience, drawn from members’ past work in Caleya and Teryky, is evident in every nuanced transition and thunderous crescendo.
The debut “Dawning” showcased a talent for balancing slow-building tension with explosive climaxes, peppered with hints of modern black metal influences. On “Sores of Our Time”, Druma takes that formula and evolves it, infusing the album with richer detail and a more defined sense of direction. The production is pristine, capturing the raw power of their sound without sacrificing its emotional weight.
Lyrically and conceptually, the album plunges listeners into a bleak, apocalyptic vision, exploring themes of social struggle and global inequity. It’s a world of despair, brought to life by the band’s ability to alternate between ruthless aggression and melancholic reflection. Ruthless, gut-wrenching outbursts collide with moments of haunting atmosphere, creating a dynamic ebb and flow that keeps listeners enthralled.
“Sores of Our Time” is a testament to Druma’s growth, proving their ability to not only refine their craft but to push their music into even darker and more resonant territory. It’s a must-listen for those who seek heaviness with depth, and it cements DRUMA as a standout force in the post-metal and sludge scene.
“Sores of Our Time” will be coming out on March 7 via Moment of Collapse Records.
