Review LOVE IS NOISE “To Live in a Different Way”

Love Is Noise is a rather young band and “To Live in a Different Way” is the title of their debut album released by Century Media. The band was inspired by The Verve and their song “Love is Noise”, which gives you an idea of the direction the band is going.

Love Is Noise was formed in 2021 by singer/guitarist Cameron Humphrey and guitarist Tom Mellon. In the beginning the guys released a couple of 7″‘s and a first EP called “Euphoria, Where Were You?” before presenting their first full-length.

The band takes its inspiration from Potishead and Radiohead, but also adds some influences from Bullet For My Valetine and Deftones to their electrifying sound. A song that gives a good idea of what the band sounds like is “Slow Grow”. It was one of the two lead singles and combines a lot of what the band stands for musically. With melodies that are partly reminiscent of Brit-pop, the song also brings the furious aspect of Love Is Noise to the fore. Towards the end the song explodes and captivates with a dense sound reminiscent of bands like Deftones.

Equally wild and furious is the explosive blast called “Jawbreaker”. Although it has some melodic moments, the song is a massive assault on your ears with furious screams from Humphrey.

Calmer and very soulful is “Evelyn”. The song is a counterpart to the wild outbursts and still fits into the context of the album because of the melancholic mood that runs through the song. “Sunrise” follows a similar pattern with more emphasis on the melodies instead of a shredding escalation of riffs.

“It Hurts to Know You’re There” reflects some Brit-pop influences once again, while the atmospheric “Ascending” comes at the end with its shoegaze influences.

“To Live in a Different Way” is the first album of a young band and the energy can be felt in every song on the album. Rock, metal, shoegaze and post-punk, it all comes together on this album, while some Oasis influences cannot be denied either. The tracklist on this album is a very dynamic fusion of all these influences and this release is well worth a listen.
