Former Sabaton guitarist Tommy Johansson founded Majestica in 2019 and premiered the same year with a catchy longplayer called “Above the Sky”. Majestica’s roots are deeper though, as the band started out in the early 2000s as ReinXeed, a project that never got off the ground, and it was in the aforementioned year of 2019 that the new attempt under the banner of Majestica first attracted attention. One year after the release of the debut album, Majestica created their own interpretation of Christmas with an album titled “A Christmas Carol”. After Johansson left Sabaton in 2024, he got the chance to dedicate more time to his own band and twelve months later “Power Train” is supposed to provide some steam engine power.
The new album picks up where the guys left off with their sophomore release, only without the Christmas theme. Sticky melodies and an anthemic approach to music, that’s what songs like “Megatrue” reflect. It is not easy to ignore the impact of these catchy power metal tracks. “No Pain, No Gain” and “Go Higher” with their sugar-sweet melodies are captivating songs that blend metal and pop.
The songs on “Power Train” are certainly not a mind-blowing experience for the denim and leather fan base, but on the other hand it’s almost impossible to resist. The puffing steam engine at the beginning of “Power Train” has just too much impact. The tempo is high, the melodies are catchy, and before you know it you are caught in the web that provides another captivating anthem with “Victorious”.
“Power Train” is an album that follows all the clichés of symphonic power metal. Whether you like it or not is one thing, but we have to admit that what Johansson delivers is professional and done with full commitment. I could imagine that more people will listen to “Power Train” than the guys will admit. Fans of melodic power metal will love “Power Train” anyway and let’s see how the journey continues.
