Review THUNDERMOTHER “Dirty & Divine”

Sweden’s Thundermother haven’t changed their approach, and why should they? Their high-octane rock has been successful for several years. The fact that the band is one of the biggest live performers keeps the down-to-earth spirit alive and that’s also what you can hear on their latest effort called “Dirty & Divine”.

What is different about the new album is that it is the first with Linnea Vikström and Joan Massing. Two years after the release of “Black & Gold” it is the latest effort to feature the two girls and that they fit to Thundermother has already been proven by some live shows in 2023.

“So Close” is the energetic start of the album. A booming bass, a rock’n’roll riff and Vikström’s powerful vocals are the main pillars of this pounding opener. The power of rock is what the throbbing “Can’t Put Out the Fire” represents before the blistering “Speaking of the Devil” rolls over you with steam engine power. What all of these songs have in common is the simple joy of playing rock music, a bedrock for the entire album.

Melodic and with some chart potential comes “Feeling Alright”. It’s a good time rock song that emotionally heralds the upcoming summer season. After such a short detour into the sunshine of life, “Take the Power” is a furious hard rock anthem. It is one of the hardest songs on the album with Vikström screaming and shouting.

“I Left My License in the Future” is a song with a darker vibe where the bass plays an important role. It is a grooving song that should work perfectly in live shows with the sing-along chorus.

“Dead or Alive” is a track that has a certain ease to it and is probably more alive than dead. That you can feel the next song is a given, as the powerful beat of “Can You Fell It” will make your floor vibrate when you turn the amp up to 10.

“American Adrenaline” closes the album in typical Thundermother fashion. Loud, wild and without limits, that’s “American Adrenaline” and the finale of “Dirty & Divine”.

After another major line-up change in 2023, Thundermother is back with full power and commitment. The girl power band continues its impressive journey through the fields of hard rock and one can be excited to appreciate the new songs live on the upcoming tour.
