“Infinity” will get a twin at the end of January, as End Of Green will release “Twinfinity”. Almost thirty years after the release of their debut album, the Swabian gothic rockers will return to their beginnings with the re-recording of their first full-length album.
It was 1996 when five guys from the greater Stuttgart area released their debut album on Nuclear Blast, and time was probably on their side. Grunge was on its way down, heavy metal was still not on its rise, and nu metal had just reached its peak. So there was some space left for heavy, dark and melancholic sounds that bands like Type O’Negative were claiming, and it’s End Of Green who found their own niche in this kind of music too.
The fusion of doom metal, gothic and alternative metal, together with the spirit of a young and hungry band, is what served as the fuel for the songs on “Infinity”. In order to pay tribute to the band’s roots, Michelle Darkness, Kerker, Hundi, Lusiffer and Sad Sir re-recorded the entire album and will release it under the banner of “Twinfinity”.
It’s both versions you get with this release. There is the original recording and the reworked version.
End Of Green stick very much to the original version, which includes minor deviations on a detail level.
What stands out is the title track, which reaches a running time of nine minutes, while the original version had a running time of six minutes. While the “Infinity” songs have the charm of the early days and act as a walk down memory lane, it is the new interpretation that reveals the full potential of these tracks. Heaviness, emotional impact and musical savvy unite and together with modern recording capabilities allow End Of Green to give these tunes a new shine in the darkness.
Those of you who missed the start of the German gothic powerhouse now have the chance to catch up, while End Of Green fans now have the opportunity to listen to these nine gothic anthems in a new shine. “Twinfinity” is also the band’s first album to be released via Reaper Entertainment and I guess it’s time for a new studio album since “Void Estate” was released in 2017. At least the conditions seem to be set.
