Review LINKIN PARK “From Zero”

After the reunion of Oasis, the next big thing was announced in September this year when a mysterious countdown appeared on Linkin Park’s social media. It was hard to predict where it would lead to, and when the countdown reached ‘0’ and restarted, it was perfect confusion.

In the meantime, we know that Linkin Park is back and that they have a new vocalist in Emily Armstrong. The band introduced their new singer in style with a streaming show that Linkin Park played, followed by a few shows in different metropolitan cities around the globe.

Not to forget in this hype is the fact that the band also has with Colin Brittain a new drummer, while the rest of the band is very well known. Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix and Joe Hahn represent the classic line-up of the band and Linkin Park showed with a new song that there is still a flow of creativity when it comes to music.

“The Emptiness Machine” is the lead single for the next big news as the band announced a new album, their first in seven years. “The Emptiness Machine” is a stunning song that showcases Linkin Park’s trademarks while also reflecting a new chapter for the guys. The song gives Armstrong a perfect opportunity to demonstrate her vocal talents. The clean vocals and the seamlessly alternating screams are definitely an addition to the six-piece’s sound and a promising sign for “From Zero”.

“From Zero” is the title of the Californian powerhouse’s latest studio album, which features the lead single and ten additional songs. In the meantime, the band unveiled two more tracks. “Heavy is the Crown” is another anthemic smasher from the band, combining rap vocals with Armstrong’s massive screams.

“Over Each Other” is the third single from the album and is the most commercial one in terms of heaviness. It’s more of a modern rock song with Armstrong completely taking over the vocal duties. The song is certainly a good one, but it lacks the typical outburst as it stays very much in a standard pattern.

The full range of Linkin Park 2024 is revealed in the raging “Casualty” and the following “Overflow”. While “Casualty” is a furious song with intense Armstrong shouts along with heavy riffing, it is a cinematic sonic width that characterizes “Overflow”. These two songs frame the scope of “From Zero,” an album that also has moments like “Two Faced” that are reminders of the earlier Linkin Park.

Emily Armstrong is not Chester Bennington and having her in the band doesn’t take away from the greatness of the iconic singer. “From Zero”, a title that in a way speaks for itself, is more of a new beginning. It is the beginning of a second era that has with “From Zero” a professionally crafted first chapter. Linkin Park are back. The guys don’t deny their roots and present their typical trademark sound, while adding a new touch and feel to their music that adds to the relevance of this iconic band.
