Review THE OFFSPRING “Supercharged”

It’s like the summer season of 2024 has been extended by The Offspring‘s new album. “Supercharged” is the title of this longplayer, which contains ten new songs by the Californian punk rockers.

According to The Offspring frontman Dexter Holland, the new album should provide pure energy from start to finish, and the band succeeds. With this in mind, the title “Supercharged” completes the picture.

The latest longplayer is an album that reflects on all the achievements that people have, but also puts the spotlight on the tough times that life throws at you. Especially when things don’t go as planned, everyone needs to be surrounded by people who believe in them, and that’s the key message addressed in “Make It All Right”. Musically rooted in the Offspring’s earlier days, the song was already released as a single, which is a good choice as it reflects the general spirit of the album in a good way.

“Looking Out For #1” is the starting point for this 32-minute punk-rock adventure. It is a vibrant opening to the album as the song combines the anarchic punk rock vibe with a Californian ease.

“Light It Up” is a straightforward rock song with no frills, followed by “The Fall Guy”. The latter has a great chorus that will be perfect for live shows. The ohohoh parts are just too tempting to shout along with.

“Truth in Fiction” provides pure energy and “Come to Brazil” is one of the best songs on the album. It is a rather metal-like opening riff that leads to a song that is a bit different from most of the other tracks on “Supercharged”.

The finale of “Supercharged” nears as you listen to the addictive melodies of “Hanging By A Thread” before the final chapter of this album gets going. “You Can’t Get There From Here” is a mid-tempo The Offspring song that radiates a rebellious spirit, and it’s the sing-along chorus that makes the song easily accessible from round 1.

The Offspring’s latest effort, “Supercharged”, has all the characteristics of a band that is one of the most established acts in US punk rock. Although the running time is rather short at 32 minutes, the quality of the songs provides an entertaining experience for fans of the band and those who may have missed the band before. This record keeps the summer vibes alive, even as the leaves start to change color and fall begins.
