In a way, Allt’s debut album reminds me a bit of bands like Meshuggah. Not exactly because of the music itself, more because of their approach to music, but let’s start from the beginning. Allt is a band from Karlskoga, Sweden. It’s a small town that is the hometown of some Swedish athletes and with Allt a metalcore band can be added to the list of “famous personalities from Karlskoga”.
The band was formed in 2020 and the band name means “everything” in Swedish. In a way, this reflects the band’s approach to music, as the debut album “From the New World” is a massive release with songs that can’t be pinned down to a specific genre.
Although metalcore with some hoarse screams and thunderous riffs is the foundation for the 10 songs, it is the variety of influences that make this album something special, a longplayer with a lasting entertainment factor.
These songs are like an onion, as with each layer you peel off, you find a new one that is even more intense than the one you removed. What was already recognizable on the first two EPs finds a perfect continuation on “From the New World”.
The starting point of this album is an intro called “A Flash of Light”. The oppressive vibe of the intro sets the scene for the album that explodes out of the box with the massive “Remnant”. Brutal screams and clean vocals interact and what is immediately apparent is the progressive structure of the song. Breaks and twists are the vibrant base of the song that with all its complexity still allows the listener to find there was in the music of Allt.
There is the hard hitting “Memory of Light” which is a massive attack on your eardrums while the song also has some softer moments. The contrast is what makes the heavy part even more brutal, and “Memory of Light” is not the only song that uses this formula.
The clean vocals play a major role in “Echoes”, a song that constantly jumps between atmospheric moments and wild outbursts. Frantic is one way to describe “The Orphan Breed”, which also comes with a wrecking-ball-like riff, and the following “Dissect Yourself” takes things a step further. The song gets very close to chaos while Allt always keeps control and perspective of this furious blast.
“From the New World” is a brute debut album with a lot of great twists and turns. Just when you think you understand what this album is all about, Allt adds another surprise twist that takes you back to your personal starting point when it comes to exploring this release. Allt challenge boundaries and they do it in an impressive way.
