Bobbie Dazzle is a new outfit formed by singer Siân Greenway and “Fandabidozi” is the debut album. Not only is Greenway a very talented singer. She also has a passion for the sound of 70’s rock in general and glam rock in particular.
Inspired by greats like David Bowie, The Sweet and T.Rex, the singer’s album contains ten songs fueled by the power of rock and roll. Although she plays music that had its heyday a few decades ago, the album doesn’t sound old-fashioned or outdated. Rather, Bonnie Dazzle brings back music that is as relevant today as it was in the 70s.
The album opens with the very groovy “Lightning Fantasy,” a high-voltage rock song with very special lyrics. Greenway’s father died when she was eleven, and she also had to deal with the loss of her sister. While clearing out her house, Greenway found her father’s record collection, and there were a few pieces of paper that felt out of a Bob Dylan album. What was written on the sheets were lyrics that her father had written when he was 17. One of these lyrics was “Lightning Fantasy” and what the father started a long time ago is now finished by the daughter. What an impressive and remarkable way to create songs.
“Merry-Go-Round” is next and also reflects the sound of the 70s, in this case including the flute, which almost reminds a bit of Jethro Tull without leaving the glam rock direction while ultimate rock power is the basis for “Revolution”, a song with some T. Rex references.
“Back to the City” is another vibrant moment of the album offering a stunning groove before the up-tempo “It’s Electric” acts as the ultimate wake-up call. The songs on this album are all great and there is no weak spot on the tracklist. The seductive “Lady on Fire” is as good as any song on the album, and the finale with “April Showers” and “Flowers on Mars” keeps the very pleasant impression of “Fandabidozi” alive.
Bobbie Dazzle’s debut album is a kicking ode to glam rock that nods to greats like Bowie while also carrying a bit of Rocky Horror Picture Show vibe and the sounds of Detroit. This album is pure fun to listen to and provides a great time. It is the spirit of rock’n’roll that has the power to turn gray days into colorful moments in life, as colorful as the album’s artwork, which reflects the music in a great way.
