Review A FOREST MIGHTY BLACK “The Hedonist”

A Forest Mighty Black is not a unique band name, and it’s important not to confuse the Italian powerhouse with the German electro outfit of the same name. We are talking about the five guys from Vincenza.

With “The Hedonist” the band releases their second album after debuting with “Chemical/Physical” a few years ago. The latest release contains eight songs that sound like a mixture of stoner rock and grunge. It is as if the foggy melancholy of Seattle meets the shimmering desert heat.

Two singles were released earlier and one of them is a song called “Birdman”: Heavy and with down-tuned guitars the song spreads a wistful atmosphere and it’s more the sound of Seattle than the stoner inspiration being in the spotlight. Alice In Chains is certainly a band that the quintet has listened to more than once, as some cross-references appear several times.

The other single that was released before the album hit the shelves is “The Gambler”. It is another dark song that also comes with a psychedelic feel. Hypnotic and maybe a bit too long in the same pattern is what describes “Mantra Chant”, a song with some stoner roots.

The album ends with two of the longest songs on the album. “The Night the Stars Went Off” as well as “Grave Digger” are well chosen tracks to give the listener a good impression of what A Forest Mighty Black is all about. While the former shows the grunge influences for the next time, it’s the red-hot “Grave Digger” that brings a musical heat haze to your place.

A Forest Mighty Black deliver with “The Hedonist” an album that entertains from start to finish. The fusion of hard rock, grunge and stoner rock is an explosive one that invites you to a colorful journey through the realms of rock.
