The Georgia Thunderbolts from Rome, Georgia are one of the rising stars of southern rock and blues. The band released a self-titled EP in 2020, which was the first musical exclamation point. To keep the momentum going, the band released their debut album a year later, and with “Rise Above It All”, the next album aims to keep the streak alive.
“Rise Above It All” contains thirteen songs and all of them can compete with what the guys released earlier. Well-crafted southern rock with many influences is what the album offers, and The Georgia Thunderbolts manage to put it all together in a good way.
There’s the laid-back “Wait” that spreads a summertime easiness, while the opener “Gonna Shine” reflects the down-to-earth approach of this album. Nothing is fancy or over the top. What The Georgia Thunderbolts offer is honest music – like the blues-driven “Rock and Roll Record”.
Roaring and loud, that’s “She’s Gonne Get It,” a song made for beer-soaked bars where rock ‘n’ roll is the elixir of life. These songs describe the range of The Georgia Thunderbolts, and I shouldn’t forget “It Ain’t Easy” with its bluesy riff and steady beat. Rock and blues are the driving force behind “Whiskey Talkin'”, while the price tag comes at the end. “Pricetag” is actually the title of the last song on the album, and The Georgia Thunderbolts finish things off with power and dedication.
“Rise Above It All” is a Southern rock album that transports the heat and humidity of Georgia and embeds it in authentic music that reflects a contemporary interpretation of Southern rock in a great way. The Georgia Thunderbolts add another great album to their discography with Rise Above It All, and it’s the ease with which these songs swing that makes the album a great soundtrack for an unforgettable summer season.
