Review MIKE TRAMP “Songs of White Lion – Vol. II”

Mike Tramp is a well-known name in the world of rock. Not only does the Dane have a large number of solo releases under his belt. Also Feak Of Nature and certainly his time with White Lion contributed a lot to the popularity of the singer.

It was a year ago when Tramp went back in time and released “Songs of White Lion”, re-recorded songs from the White Lion era in the 80s. With “Songs of White Lion – Vol.II” Tramp introduces a second set of songs penned by the melodic rock/metal veterans.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that the songs on Vol.II are not as great as the classics on the first album, but they are certainly the less-known ones. Framed by “Lights & Thunders” and “Farewell to You”, both from the “Main Attraction” album, Mike Tramp also goes back to the debut album with “The Road to Valhalla”.

The rocking moments are mirrored by songs like “Don’t Give Up”, a song that could stand for the career of Tramp himself. “Lonely Nights”, also from the sophomore album, shows the hard rock beauty of White Lion and the same goes for the bursting “All You Need is Rock’n’Roll”.

I would say that the rock community hasn’t waited for “Songs of White Lion – Vol.II” and at the same time the album contains real hard rock classics, re-recorded by Mike Tramp and his bandmates, tunes that are a treat for your ears. The release shows the high level of quality of most of the songs that found a place on the first four White Lion albums. Tramp has given the songs his own little twist without moving away from the original recordings, which is a smart move and at the same time raises the question if the White Lion albums wouldn’t be the better option for fans who missed the second half of the 80s.
