It’s not always the loud things in life that reaches your eardrums first. Sometime the calmer tones are much more intense than any volume-at-10 approach. A project that embraces the intensity of calmness is De Mannen Broders.
As the moniker already indicates it is a project with roots in Benelux. Colin van Eeckhout, which some of you know from Amenra together with Zeeuws Flemish folk icon Tonnie ‘broeder’ Dieleman started De Mannen Broerers and the debut album called “Sober Maal” (Dutch for “Sober Meal”) will be released on October 11th,2024 through Relapse Records.
The label is known for special bands and project with a very individual sound. De Mannen Broeders fit perfectly into this context.
The lead single of this debut album has been revealed already. “Grafschrift” is a melancholic song full of grief and sadness. When I listened to the song for the first time, I was constantly waiting for the blast being the counterpart to the folk foundation. It never comes as the song stays in its emotionally intense pattern. Impressive work.
