Review WORSHIPPER “One Way Trip”

Psychedelic hard rockers Worshipper were formed in 2014 in Boston, MA. John Brookhouse, Dave Jarvis, Alejandro Necochea and Bob Maloney debuted in 2016 with the album “Shadow Hymns” before “Light in the Wire” hit the shelves in 2019.

The new album “One Way Trip” is the next release from Worshipper, who continue their journey through the heavy sounds of psych rock.

Downtuned guitars, a strong groove and a melodic approach to music is what the guys from Boston bring to the table, starting with a song called “Heroic Dose”. A wailing siren and a heavy riff kick off both, song and album, offering a first impression of what the next 40 minutes will be all about.

“Keep This” is the next song in line and while the opener is more doom-laden, it is the second song that reminds in parts of Thin Lizzy and brings a different vibe to the plate before the slower doom riff of “Windowpane” brings back the psychedelic rock vibe.

The fact that Worshipper can also switch gears is shown by the energetic ‘Acid Burns’ before ‘James Motel’ offers the pounding beat of psych rock. Not to be forgotten is the dark and melancholic closer ‘Onwards’, which is one of the best songs on the album in terms of emotional intensity.

The above-mentioned songs give a clear idea of what to expect from “One Way Trip”. Worshipper’s third full-length is a versatile and entertaining release with music that combines rock and metal influences. Strengthened by well-crafted melodies, the East Coast quartet have created an album that will allow them to expand their fan base.
