Review L.A. EDWARDS “Pie Town”

The ‘Band of Brothers’, also known as L.A. Edwards, has already released three albums. The last one, “Out of the Heart of Darkness”, was unveiled a year ago and the guys have been putting a lot of effort into promoting the new songs and the album live on stage, opening for bands like Rival Sons.

L.A. Edwards, that is Luke, Jerry and Jay, all brothers and all three with a passion for well made, handcrafted music, which fills the tracklist of the latest album. “Pie Town” is the title of the fourth release and 12 new songs are what the band presents to their fans.

What is obvious when listening to the album is the same musical sense that the guys bring to the table. They play tightly together and what comes out of the speakers sounds powerful and at the same time very emotive. It is rock music in the best possible meaning of the word.

The musical spectrum includes upbeat songs like ‘Gone 4 U’, which was released as a single prior to the album’s release, and the partly Springsteen-like opener ‘Don’t Know Better’ is a lively moment on the album. At the same time, “Pie Town” contains songs that are touching. “Can You See Me” is such a peaceful and soulful moment of the album, showing the full emotional depth of L-A. Edwards’ music.

“For You” goes in a similar musical direction when it comes to emotional expression, followed by “Waterfall”, which also comes from the depths of the heart, but is more atmospheric.

The songs on Pie Town are very personal. Based on the experiences of the past few years, the lyrics deal with the resistance to growing up. It’s about the loss of an innocent view of life and the world and the desire to keep it alive for as long as possible. Each of the songs on ‘Pie Town’ is a musical interpretation of this main theme, which is also reflected in the personal lyrics.

L.A. Edwards is not about heavy riffs and loud screams. It is more of an emotional journey through soulful moments of life. It’s about feelings and thoughts that people have and a gentle but powerful way of expressing them musically. “Pie Town” is a great rock album with some Americana moments that will please anyone who presses the play button.
