It was 35 years ago when an album hit the shelves that had and still has a strong impact on thrash metal. We are talking about ‘Fabulous Disaster’ by Bay Area thrash metal veterans Exodus. It is the band’s third album, following the milestone releases “Bonded By Blood” and “Pleasure of the Flesh”. To celebrate the anniversary of “Fabulous Disaster”, Exodus are releasing a live album from those days.
It was March 1989 when the band played a show at the legendary Astoria in London, UK. The headliner show, part of the “Fabulous Disaster” tour, was recorded and will be released as “British Disaster”: The Battle Of ’89 (Live At The Astoria)”.
The live album features all 15 songs played that night and is a witness of a time when thrash metal was at its peak. Wild and furious thrash metal, that is what “British Disaster: The Battle Of ’89 (Live At The Astoria)” reflects and considering the time when these recordings took place, the sound is excellent. The latter is also due to the fact that Chris “Zeuss” Harris was responsible for mixing and mastering. He did a terrific job, giving the album a raw and authentic sound.
Exodus have released many outstanding albums throughout their career. But the beauty of this release is the density of classics from the first three albums. “Lesson in Violence”, “Like Father, Like Son”, “Brain Dead” and “Toxic Waltz” are timeless masterpieces that are as relevant today as they were back in the 80s.
Exodus will return to Europe for a number of headlining and festival shows. They will start at the Chania Rock Festival in Greece on the 26th of July 2024 and will also return to Hamburg to play a headliner show at the Knust on the 31st of July 2024. And to get you in the right mood, “British Disaster: The Battle Of ’89 (Live At The Astoria)” is the recommended choice.
