Review QUINN SULLIVAN “Salvation”

Quinn Sullivan’s fascination for guitars began at the age of three. Inspired by his father’s blues-heavy record collection, Sullivan has already made an impressive journey through the world of blues-laden rock music, including a performance at the iconic Montreux Jazz Festival in 2013.

With “Salvation”, the next studio album from the gifted musician is ready to be unleashed. The singer and guitarist has put twelve songs on the tracklist and what they all have in common is a fine sense of emotionally driven music.

“Dark Love” is the starting point, and a very vivid one it is. Blues rock at its finest is what hits your eardrums, followed by the funky title track. “Rise Up Children” is another highlight of the album. It is an upbeat song with a great chorus. After such a powerful start, the album takes a turn with “Once Upon A Lie”. The gently swinging song spreads an ease and is the right music for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

One of the more soulful moments on ‘Salvation’ is called ‘Better In Love’. The soft and emotional tunecould be considered a ballad. However, Sullivan bypasses all the clichés and delivers a melancholic piece that is touching. The same goes for “Eyes on Me”, a song that carries a lot of soul.

One of the good things about “Salvation” is its versatility. With rock and blues as the anchor genres, there are always spices that add something new to the mix. Just listen to the funky “Nothin’ Gonna Change My Mind” with the integrated horn section adding extra flavour to this grooving track.

One thing is for sure. Quinn Sullivan has a lot of talent that he combines with a passion for music. Together with a great sense of melody, Sullivan has recorded an album that entertains and gives the listener a great time. “Salvation is an album not to be missed if you’re interested in great music built on talent and dedication.
