Review LŸNX ‘Claws Out’

It is important to note that Lÿnx is not Lynx. While the latter is a band from Germany, this is Lÿnx from Calgary, Canada. The Canadian quartet was formed in 2020 and it is the shared love for 80s hairspray metal that brought Ja6ur, Blade, Fangs and Flash together.

Inspired by bands like Mötley Crüe, Poison and others, the band began working on songs for their debut album ‘Claws Out’. Well, the claws are neither sharp nor as dangerous as the cat on the cover suggests.

Instead, ‘Claws Out’ is a standard hard rock album with songs from the shelf. Stuck in genre-typical lyrics, songs like the title track are okay, but completely lack the wow-factor.

What makes it even worse is the sound. I don’t know if it’s just the demo I received that sounds so bad. I can only hope that this is the case, because every demo tape from the 80s had a better sound.

Even with the best intentions, I can’t recommend this album unless you’re looking for standard sleaze rock with a terrible sound.
