It was 2011 when Tomorrow’s Rain began. The debut album of the Tel Aviv based band hit the stores in 2020 and the second album “Ovdan” is on its way. The six-piece band offers a fusion of doom metal and gothic. Solemn songs with a stately tempo are what the listener can expect, and it is the first song ‘Roads’ that is more of a lament that turns into a blackened metal track in the last third without compromising on the basic pattern.
The blackened aspect of the song also has to do with the guests who are part of this song. Andreas Vingback aka Heljarmadr (Dark Funeral) and Tony Wakeford (Sol Invictus) add their parts to ‘Roads’ and it seems to be a successful cooperation.
Tomorrow’s Rain managed to get some more guests on board. None other than Mayhem‘s Attila Csihar is part of ‘Muaka’ and if you listen to the acoustic beginning of the song you might wonder how this is possible. But the moment the vocals start, the song gets this morbid and devilish vibe without getting close to Black Metal. It is more the inner desperation that comes to the fore and dominates the vibe of this song.
Atmospheric and with the support of Jan Lubitzki (Depressive Age) the dark “Burning Times” wraps everyone’s soul in a black sound blanket before “Turn Around” starts in a more dynamic way. Reminiscent of melodic death metal, the song features Michael Denner (King Diamond/Mercyful Fate). I found myself thinking of Paradise Lost while listening to this track.
I have to admit that I didn’t have Tomorrow’s Rain on my musical radar, but what I got to hear is well-done doom-based metal that may not be the next big thing, but still contains many interesting moments which make the album worth listening to.
