Review KEYGEN CHURCH ‘Nel Nome Del Codice’

The brain behind Keygen Church has a familiar name. The ones of you that heard of Master Boot Record know the musical passion of Victor Love. The Italian programmer brought a new 8-bit sound the scene and is surprisingly connected to metal.

With Keygen Church, Love has another one-project up and running. ‘Nel Nome Del Codice’ is the title of this release that features nine tracks. Each of them is an instrumental that sounds dramatic. It feels like the Captain Future soundtrack is morphed into a rock opera-

‘Nel Nome Del Codice’ is a dark and bombastic piece of music that combines the beauty of rock with classic music and a neo-romantic touch. Songs like ‘La Chaive Del Mio Amor’ are exemplary for what this album is about. Dense keyboard sounds, the piano and the digitalized beat is what finds common ground with choral moments. The song is like the gate to a digitalized and at the same time romantic shimmering world. One is fascinated by these sound collages that are so atmospheric. In combination with breaks and versatility, each of these nine tunes is more of a composition than a usual song.

The exciting thing with Master Boot record as well as with Keygen Church is, that streaming project feature digitalized music only. There are no guitars, no bass, and no drum the way we are used to listen to. Yet each of these songs have an affinity to metal and fit into the context of hard music. Love calls it “Synth Metal” and in a way the term describes it very well. It’s the sound of a digital cathedral Victor Love recorded, with the sound of the organ being a major element of Keygen Church. And that heaviness can be created is what e.g. ‘Lode Al Disco Sacro’ clearly shows.

Fans of Master Boot Record should for sure check out this trendless masterpiece and everybody who wants a musical challenge should give Keygen Church a chance too. This is music that with its gloomy vibe fits into the world of metal and shows how wide the framework of this genre can be interpreted.
