Wade Black, some of you might remember the singer from his days with Crimson Glory. Black was part of theline-up that recorded the ‘Astronomica’ album which was Crimson Glory’s attempt to connect to the great debut and the excellent ‘Transcendence’ album. Even though the album wasn’t a bad one, Crimson Glory didn’t unveil the vibe to their heydays.
Now it is Wade Black who gives it a try to bridge to the ‘Astronomica’-days. The band’s name and the artwork, both are clear indicators of Black wanting to connect to his Crimson Glory days, but those crosslinks are the only ones. The music one ‘The Awakening’, with songs like ‘Destiny’, try to bring back the late 90s spirit but doesn’t really unfold a firework of excitement. The songs on ‘The Awakening’ don’t inspire and although being equipped with a good sound, the longplayer follows the standard principles of power metal, enriched with a few progressive twists.
To sum up. ‘The Awakening’ is a metal record off the shelve and with average songs. This longplayer doesn’t connect to ‘Astronomica’ and has not much to do with the sound of Crimson Glory.
