After Kiss shifting from the real world into the digital universe and handing over things to some avatars it is former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley who might not fill the gap but releases a really cool new record.
After being in and out as ‘The Spaceman’, Frehley started a space trip into his own universe in 1987 as Frehley’s Comet, followed by several solo albums. Two years later, the guitarist launched with ‘Trouble Walkin’’ a real solo album that nearly made it to the Top 100 Billboard charts.
With ’10.000 Volts’, the next Ace Frehley album will hit the shelves in early 2024 and what the rock veteran delivers is worth to be checked out. The album features eleven songs and ist produced by Frehley in cooperation with Steve Brown. The guys gave ’10.000 Volts’ the necessary full-body rock sound and a very solid groove. Songs like the slower and grooving ‘Cosmic Heart’ are benefiting from the production and slowly crawl into listener’s mind.
The starting point to the album is the title track, which is a typical Frehley songs. A great melody, Frehley’s typical guitar play and his vocals; all together is leads to a well-crafted song that unfolds it potential immediately.
A song with a great riff is ‘Cherry Medicine’ but the track also shows that Frehley is more of a guitarist than a gifted singer. The chorus though is as sweet as sugar and sticks right away. ‘Back Into My Arms Again’ is more of a standard half ballad while it is ‘Fight For Life’ that blasts after turning the page. It is a simple and straight-forward rock song that belongs to the best ones on the album. ‘Constantly Cute’ is a journey back into the 70s while and a sioulful moment on this album is entitled ‘Life of a Stranger’. The latter is a moderate paced track that is too powerful for being looked at as a ballad. Still, it is an emotional highlight on ’10.000 Volts’ and a beauty to listen to. ‘Up in the Sky’ brings back the untamed power of rock’n’roll while the atmospheric ‘Stratosphere’ puts Frehley’s guitar into the center.
’10.000 Volts’ is a great rock album, done by a pioneer of rock. Ace Frehley’s newest effort features a wide range of rock sounds that are all authentic and fit together greatly to become a stellar total.
