Review APPARITION ‘Fear the Apparition’

Apparition is a death metal squad, hailing from Zaragoza, Spain. The guys started in 2018 and it was in the middle of the pandemic that work on a demo was finished. Two songs from ‘Apparition’ are now also on the debut album called ‘Fear of Apparition’.

The demo got to the attention of FDA Records and after a deal has been inked, the full-length studio album is now in the starting blocks. The longplayer, with an artwork by Markus Vesper, features eight songs, rooted in death metal the US way. Parallels to bands like Skeletal remains and Malevolent Creation are present and still, Apparition strings these influences in a way together, that the album sounds fresh and very dynamic. It’s not, that the trio refurbish the entire genre and what blasts out if the speakers is music, we have heard in a similar way already.

What is instead more of a headbanger’s delight is the passion and the massive power that comes with these eight tracks that hit you like a wrecking ball. ‘Demonic Torment’, taken from the demo, is one example for the boundless ferocity of what fans of underground metal get offered. Frontman Eduardo pukes out the vocals while Ivan adds some merciless riffpower to the mix, represented in songs like the sturdy ‘Vanquished in Scorn’. The fact of the trio sneaking in some thrash metal reference adds to the positive impression of this album that represents a great start of the band.

‘Fear the Apparition’ is a powerful and savage debut album of a band that is driven by a hunger for extreme metal and it will be exciting to follow Apparition’s next steps.
