One of the most exciting contemporary prog rock outfits return with a new longplayer. Bruce Soord and The Pineapple Thief worked on new songs for nearly three years, and it was worth the effort. ‘It Leads to This’ is the title of this new masterpiece that again shows the contrast within The Pineapple Thief’s music. Loud and calm, unbound energy and the precisions of a Swiss watch; it all comes together in these new songs.
Lyrically the album bases on observation and the wish of making sense of life and everything connected to it.
To highlight a few songs from the new album doesn’t make a lot of sense, as each of the tunes is a grandiose composition that acts as a treat for your ears. However, mentioning for example ‘The Frost’ is a good thing, as the track features all the trademarks of The Pineapple Thief’s music in great fashion. There are the calmer and fragile moment while nearly six-minute chapter also includes some vibrant sound where energy breaks through the soulful wrapping. A song that also belongs to the rocking ones on the album is ‘Rubicon’. Equipped with a solid level of heaviness and a great melody line, ‘Rubicon’ blossoms immediately and still entail enough details for discovering something new with each time listening to the track.
In general, though, the newest longplayer by the band stays in quieter realms with ‘Now It’s Yours’ being a soul-touching experience for listeners. What all the songs on this album reflect is the band’s passion for good songs and it is the musical talent and experience that helps them to accomplish their musical vision. The song is the centerpiece and not the individual ego which makes the album to a beautiful journey through sounds.
‘It Leads to This’ speaks to mind and soul. It is another great piece of work by The Pineapple Thief and a stellar album that deserves focus while listening to it with earphones on in a relaxed atmosphere at home.
