Review RUSSELL-GUNS ‘Medusa’

Frontiers Music established an approach of bringing together singers and guitarist to work together on songs and an album. It’s always an interesting cooperation between these musicians and also 2024 brings such a collaboration to the plate.

This time it is Jack Russel (Great White) and Tracii Guns who created an album called ‘Medusa’. The legendary protagonists from the Los Angeles hard rock scene crafted elven songs which fill ‘medusa’ with life.

‘Next in Line’ is the opener of this exciting co-working session and it is a good one. The song brings together with best from Great White and L.A. Guns which means that we are talking about a high-octane rock album.

With ‘Tell Me Why’ the duo shifts gears as the song entails some steam engine power; a sonic blast with a good melody that hands the baton over to ‘Coming Down’. The song has a bit more L.A. Guns trademarks embedded and shows the raw power of hard rocking music.

The bluesy ‘Where I Belong’ reveals another color of Russel-Guns creative output before ‘For You’ is a next hard-hitting track that provides a good time.

The good thing with ‘Medusa’ is that the guys give their sound some edges and that the two veterans enjoy what they are doing becomes again apparent while listening to ‘In and Out of Love’. What’s also a good thing is that ‘Medusa’ doesn’t feature a sticky ballad. Even the partly calmer and soulful ‘Living a Lie’ has some scars and dust that covers heart and soul. The same goes for the intense and more blues-driven title track while it is ‘I Want You’ the ends off the album in good fashion.

Russell-Guns, these two guys harmonize when working together which results in an album that has firepower and spreads pure rock’n’roll power. Although towards the end losing a bit of the excellence of the first half, the duo brings all the experience to plate and it is the heart-driven approach that raise the dead.
