Review ORPHANED LAND ‘A Heaven You May Created’

Orphaned Land can look back on a three decades spanning history with six studio records and various EPs. A four-year hiatus couldn’t stop the band and after the reunion in 2001 the second era featured even more highlights.

To celebrate such an anniversary, the band played a show at show at Heichal HaTarbut in Tel Aviv, Israel in June 2021 and due to the pandemic, the birthday party had to face some restrictions and limitations. Besides that, the show was a full success with the band taking the audience on a journey through one-and-a-half hours of progressive metal that bridges the extremes of death metal with cinematic soundscapes. Supported by a symphony of 60 players, Orphaned Land went through the different phases of the band which includes the early days when playing songs like ‘A Neverending Way’, originally from the ‘El Norra Alila’ album. Also, newer songs, like ‘Like Orpheus’ made it on the setlist while the focus was on the Mabool: The Story of the Three Sons of Seven’ from 2004. The album was an important milestone in the band’s biography as it marked the return of the outfit after the mentioned break.

To also make the concert available for fans that couldn’t join the event in 2021 the show was recorded and will now be released as a live album entitled ‘A Heaven You May Create’. The album features a well-balanced sound that contributes to the band’s progressive sound as well as it transports the live atmosphere of this special event.

‘A Heaven You May Create’ is a well-crafted live album. It reflects three decades of progressive metal with oriental sounds and fans of the band as well as people who dig technically advanced music, will welcome this album and appreciate the time travel through Orphaned Land’s music achievements.
