Review CRYPTOSIS ‘The Silent Call’ – EP

Cryptosis was part of the metal scene as Distillator before undergoing a renaming in 2020. In parallel with the new band name the sound of the trio also slightly shifted. Was it raw thrash metal prior to the renaming Cryptosis added a more progressive aspect to their sound that also feature a few death metal links.

The three Dutchmen released their debut called ‘Bionic Swarm’ in 2021 and to keep the fire bringing it is an EP that sees the record stores these days.

‘The Silent Call’ contains four songs of which two are well-known, as they are part of the debut’s tracklist. To still provide something new for fans, the versions on this release are live recording from a show Cryptosis played in Athens, Greece in late 2022.

The only new song on the release is the title track. ‘The Silent Call’ mirrors the trademarks of the band and combines technical finesse with bigger soundscapes and solid portion of heaviness. Equipped with racing parts and cinematic moments the song has a lot to offer and it takes a while before ‘The Silent Call’ unveils the details. Remaining to their chosen trademarks, the trio evolves their sound and that is what the title track reflects.

With ‘Master of Life’ another, at least partly, new song made it on this release too. It is a previously unreleased song from the 2021 album session and is surprisingly straight-forward.

Cryptosis release with ‘The Silent Call’ an in-Between EP that will help to keep the band present in people’s mind and although the release offers good music it will be more an item for fans of the band and passionate collector.
