Review MASTER’S CALL ‘A Journey for the Damned’

Master’s Call isn’t what you could call a new band as the foundation date was back in 2013. So, it’s the ten years anniversary and right in time for this special moment in the band’s history, the debut album will hit the shelves.

It was in 2019 when the guys launched wit ‘Morbid Black Trinity’ a first EP a release that came to the attention of Fireflash Records who signed the band and release their first longplayer called ‘A Journey for the Damned’.

Master’s Call offer ab interesting blend of heavy metal and blackened death metal. Obviously, to finish the album wasn’t an easy thing. The band had to overcome quite few obstacles, like losing three vocalists during the recording process. In the end guitarist John Wilcox took over the vocals duties and he does a really good job. The slightly hoarse voice provides each of the tracks with a blackened vibe and a sinister expression. Next to the well-done vocals the album features racing metal with furious leads and beats.  Yet it’s not only the heaviness that counts. Especially when it comes to the guitars, Mater’s Call created some great melody lines and hooks. Listen for example to the blistering ‘Blood on the Altar’ as well as the dramatic opening of the album. ‘All Hope in Fire’ starts with a sinister and cinematic intro that leads to a heavy pounding metal track, opening the diabolic gates to this album.

The songs on the album, seven in total, all come with an extensive running time. Mostly longer than five minutes, each of the tracks entails enough finesse and versatility to provide a thrilling listening experience for metalheads. ‘Into the Abyss Once More’ and also the closer ‘Pathways’ feature smart breaks providing firepower and variation without losing the context of the album.

‘A Journey for the Damned’ is a debut that was finalized ten years after the band started. However, what took a while led to a blasting metal record that contains heaviness, a blackened heart and a musical smartness, resulting in songs that will provide a thrill for much longer than just one listen.
