Review LYNCH MOB ‘Babylon’

Coincidence or not, but it’s two musicians with a common heritage who are releasing albums these days. We are talking about Don Dokken and George Lynch. Within a week the new Dokken album is released while it is George Lynch with his band Lynch Mob who makes the first step and releases a disc as well.

‘Babylon’ is the title of the new Lynch Mob album and what the guitarist presents us is first class hard rock. Already with the opener ‘Erase’ it is obvious that a lot can be expected from this new album. The band leader together with his comrades-in-arms, vocalist Gabriel Colón, bassist Jaron Gulino (Tantric, Heavens Edge), and drummer Jimmy D’anda (ex-Bulletboys), have delivered a dynamic album that is completely entertaining.

Somehow George Lynch manages to give the band a constant musical expression without repeating himself over and over again. If you listen to ‘Babylon’, you can recognize the band leader’s signature without being annoyed by a repetitive effect.

A big part in the class of ‘Babylon’ is undoubtedly singer Gabriel Colón. The Puerto Rican-born vocalist fits perfectly to the sound of Lynch Mob and doesn’t need to shy away from comparisons with Oni Logan.

Already during the first three songs it shows that Lynch and Colón harmonize well – feeding each other lines. ‘Caught Up’ is one of the songs that reflects the class of the two, without forgetting the grooving rhythm section.

Furthermore, there is a stomping song with ‘I’m Ready’, followed by the crashing ‘How You Fall’.
The soulful moment is called ‘Million Miles Away’ and belongs to the better ballads. With ‘Let It Go’ and ‘Fire Master’ two good but rather average Lynch Mob songs follow before the very dark ‘The Synner’ comes along like a break in style. It takes a while to get used to this unusual track.

‘Babylon’ ends with the title track. It is an eight-minute epic, which rightly gives the album its name. Located between traditional hard rock and alternative rock a la Alter Bridge, that’s how you could describe the tune. In addition, it is a slightly oriental touch, which gives the track that certain extra.

All in all it can be said that ‘Babylon’ has become a very good album and completely fulfills the expectations. George Lynch’s bursting creativity allows him to write songs that are more than standard hard rock stuff.
