Review NECROTTED ‘Imperium’

German death metal outfit Necrotted started in 2008 and releases these days with ‘Imperium’ their fifth full-length album. The five-piece placed nine songs on the tracklist and each of them is a brutal riff assault that fuses blackened death metal with some deathcore moment.

The blasting ‘Sow Sorrow For Victory’ shows the various influences very well. Deep growls and hoarse screams interact, support by ten-ton riffs and grooving rhythmic. The fact that the middle part features a calmer moment adds versatility to the mix and the well-done solo part speaks to the cleverness of the Swabian powerhouse.

‘Ignorance is Fear’ puts some blast beats into the forefront while the massive wall of sound is what makes the song to a musical wrecking ball. And every time you think that they can’t add extra energy the guys prove you wrong. The furious ‘Round X: Freedom vs Security’ not only addresses a very relevant topic these days but also shows the entire aggressiveness of the musical direction the band decided to go for.

Lyrically ‘Imperium’ is another concept album that builds on the storyline of the predecessor. Mostly with lyrics in English but also partly using their native language the band addresses politically charged topics (‘Reich der Gier’) as well as current tendencies, like the growing ignorance (‘Ignorance is Fear’).

‘Imperium’ isn’t a peaceful and lightful album. It is rather the opposite. This release is a dark and dystopian piece of music, coming with slamming riffs and extreme vocals. ‘Imperium’ is a gloomy and sinister place which could be interesting for fans of extreme metal.
