Review BRUCE SOORD ‚Luminescence‘

Releases that include Bruce Soord are always treats for your ears. Regardless of if we talk about albums from The Pineapple Thief or solo release from Soord, each of these albums are beautifully crafted sound collages with depth.

The newest offering is a solo album entitled ‚Luminescence‘. As expected the release isn‘t about the harsh riffs and loud screams. Instead, Soord focusses on the gentle toned, reflected by songs like gently swinging ‚Lie Flat‘. On the first listen the songs sounds rather simple but unveils its beautiful details which each extra listen.

In the center of the album is Soord‘s acoustic guitar and the soulful ‚Olomouc‘ is a great example for the approach. It doesn‘t mean though that ‚Luminescence‘ is a non_thrilling acoustic album. Instead, the musical master of his craft creates soundscapes that tell stories beyond words and lyrics. The strong part of this album is the fact, that Soord transfers emotions rather than solely provides well-done music.

Such an endeavor takes time and the iconic musician worked since 2021 on songs for the album. ‚Luminescence‘ isn‘t a quick shot. It is a well-thought through release that demanded time and inspiration. The latter came from the ides of fi ding inner peace while exploring the difficulties of living in the metropolis of the modern world. Soord captured some ideas of his field recorder after having explored various cities whilst being on tour.

‚Luminescence‘ is an excellent album that showcases Soord‘s exquisite ability of writing songs and transferring emotions. With his skills and experience he makes things look easy while it is the unbound creativity that just seems flowing.
