Review SODOMISERY ‘Mazzaroth’

Sodomisery from Sweden have finished work on their newest album called ‘Mazzaroth’. After having premiered in 202 with ‘The Great demise’ the band wants to continue the successful streak and launch their sophomore album these days.

‘Mazzaroth’ features nine songs, delivering 36 minutes of blackened metal that also carries some death metal influences.

‘Coming Home’ is the starting point of this thrilling journey and immediately it is apparent, that the guys put a lot of effort into the songwriting process. With a5-minute running time, the opener has quite some to offer. Not only are the atmospheric black metal roots present, also calmer and acoustic parts with clean vocals are embedded which gives the song a nice level of versatility.

Lyrically based on the dark sites of current life, like illness of society, religion and struggling individuals, Sodomisery weave a fine mesh of sounds that also carry some drama. Especially the epic moments show some links to bands like Cradle Of Filth and Dimmu Borgir; both favorite bands of Sodomisery band members. ‘Psychogenic’ and the raging ‘Demon in Heaven’ are two songs in which the mentioned inspiration comes to shine. Noticeable is the fact having the band having used keyboards, which was a longer discussion. Actually, the album was recorded with and without keyboards. In the final end the decision was taken to went for the version with keyboards, which is certainly a benefit to songs like ‘Demon in Heaven’.

The more death metal-based roots find a spot on the album too. The melodic death metal anthem like ‘Delusion’ is one of these songs when bands like Amon Amarth and Dark Tranquillity come to my mind. The sound of the Vikings of metal is even more present on ‘A Storm Without a Wind’, which is great metal anthem with very dense sound and an impressive atmosphere.

Sodomisery launched with ‘Mazzaroth’ an thrilling longplayer that shows on the one hand the talent of the band as well as it mirrors a savvy approach that allows the quartet to realize their ideas. This album is exciting and has a lot to offer. It seems that something big is rising in Sweden.
