Compilation in times of streaming and digital music? This question might not have a concrete and it might be the purpose and circumstances that allow a compilation to shine or disappear in the realms of irrelevance.
A release, that is worth to be checked out though is the ‘Rock Down the Lockdown’ album by Plattenkiste Hamburg. It is an interesting story how this idea came to life which you can read HERE.
In this post I would like to give you a quick overview, why the album is a thrilling one. Most important, it is the dedication and passion for music, that Plattenkiste owner Christian Kind put into the choice of songs.
The album starts with an exciting version of the Kim Wilde hit ‘Kids in America’. Swedish shooting stars Freedom interpreted the Top 10 hit and created a mouth-dropping version that stays closer to the original and still sounds entirely different.
Furthermore, Majak are represented with an unreleased track while Oblivious cover Pentagram’s ‘Forever My Queen’ and they do it in Swedish. Dead Lord are part of the album too and mentioning Dead Lord; Harrowed, the side-project of Dead Lord drummer Adam Lindmark is delivering with ‘Reap the Strom’ some oldschool death metal.
Screamer unveil some live power while ‘Beerbarians’ from Tankard represents solid German thrash metal. Last but not least, YØR deliver the final blast of this album, a song entitled ‘Weakness in Numbers’.
‘Rock Down the Lockdown’ is a compilation that makes sense and provides entertaining fun. Great songs, great idea and a cool spirit.
