Review ANY GIVEN SIN ‘War Within’

‘War Within’ is the debut album of a band called Any Given Sin. Even before unleashing the first full-length album Any Given Sin knows how to use modern tools to bring their music to the people, indicated by songs like ‘Dynamite’.

‘Dynamite’ is the closer on ‘War Within’ but was already published in autumn 2018. The video was watched 1,5 million times until today, which speaks to the band and their music.

Five years later, the band has finished work on the full-length premiere which will come via Mascot Records.

The music of All Given Sin can be described as alternative rock with a modern touch. When listening to the album I was party reminded of bands like Alter Bridge, especially when it’s about the melodic parts of songs like the title track, and Sevendust when the guitars unload the entire riff power. ‘War’ Within’ kicks off the album and next to music, the lyrics also are worth a listen as it’s the topic of free speech which is addressed.

Thundering and at the same time attractive to a broader audience, that’s ‘Another Life’. Howling sirens, that’s what introduces ‘House on Fire’, a song that is addressing the fragile state of the current times.

Another songs that was revealed already as a single is ‘Cold Bones’. Inner struggles and conflicts, that’s what the tune is about. Musically Any Give Sin jumps between calmer and emotional moment that are mixed with powerful hard rock moments, giving the the song a great flow.

‘War Within’ isn’t a happy vibe album. There are some serious topics addressed and there is a constant factor of melancholia, being embedded throughout. Still, ‘War Within’ doesn’t drown in hopelessness. A few sunrays at the end of the line, that is what constantly shimmers through.

Any Given Sin are not exactly reinventing the sound of modern rock. Instead, the quartet makes use of a standard formula and makes use of it by adding some individual moments to it. This results in eleven songs that will help the band to gain additional attention and airplay. ‘War Within’, that’s professional musical entertainment. Not more and surely not less either.
