Evile, hailing from the UK, started in 2004 after having been around for five years as Metal Militia. After having unleashed the debut album ‘Enter the Grave’ back in 2007, the four-piece band managed to establish themselves as a young and hungry metal outfit with great songs.
2023 faces the next Evile longplayer and it is entitled ‘The Unknown’. Now, what hits your ears is certainly music, done by guys who know what they are doing.
Compared to the earlier releases Evile reduce pace massively which gives their sound a new dimension. There are the lightning songs on the album too, like ‘Sleepless Eyes’, but there are tunes that unveil ruthless heaviness through slower rhythms.

The starting triple contains this kind of songs, starting with the mighty pounding title track. Here and there I felt reminded to some earlier Metallica songs. ‘The Mask We Wear’ has a same approach and is equipped with maelstrom-like riff power before the band gets closer to doom metal with ‘Monolith’. This heavyweight is a highlight on the album and proves, that brutal sounds doesn’t depend on a high tempo.
The rather atmospheric ‘When Mortal Coils Shed’ shows the potential of the band when it comes to songwriting, before Evile shift gears with the mentioned ‘Sleepless Eyes’ and the following ‘Out of sight’. The latter is short and effective metal attack that leads to ‘At Mirror’s Speech’.
‘The Unknown’ is an album that carries ten songs and each of them is a well-crafted thrash metal assault. From the massive opener to the raging ‘Balance of Time’, each of the tracks has a lot of firepower and that fact that Evile also can add versatility to their sound makes ‘The Unknown’ to an excellent thrash metal release that you shouldn’t miss.
