ASINHELL- the new death metal project of Michael Poulsen, Marc Grewe and Morten Toft Hansen

Partly unkown, often forgotten, that’s Dominus, the first band of Volbeat mainman Michael Poulsen. The band released four album, charged with pure death metal, inspired by bands like Death. For more than 20 years, Poulsen focused on Volbeat and death metal wasn’t on the list of interest. This will change on September 29^th.

Poulsen worked together with Marc Grewe (ex-Morgoth) and Morten Toft Hansen (Raunchy) under the banner of Asinhell. ‘Impii Hora’ is the title of the band’s debut album which will be released end of September this year through Metal Blade Records

Poulsen wrote a few death metal riffs during Volbeat’s ‘Servant of the Mind’ session. After finishing work on the Volbeat album he picked up the riffs again and continued working on the ideas. Long story short; the ideas turned into songs and with ‘Fall of the Loyal Warrior’ a first song has been revealed.

“We’re very excited to share the first taste of Asinhell with ‘Fall Of The Loyal Warrior,'” says Poulsen. “The song is kind of a tribute to bands I love, like Bolt Thrower, Entombed, Autopsy, Grave, and Darkthrone. They’re the reason why we can do this in the first place, and we’re proud to wear our influences on our sleeve. The album was inspired by late ’80s and early ’90s old school death metal, and one of our brightest points of inspiration was the mighty Death, fronted by the legendary Chuck Schuldiner. There’s a lot of Death in there. Schuldiner is one of my favorite death metal vocalists, the other being our vocalist Marc [Grewe]. So to me, this song is the combination of two of my favorites. ‘Let the metal flow,’ as Chuck would have said!”

Different to Volbeat and Dominus, Poulsen isn’t singing on Asinhell. Instead, German chief growler Marc Grewe took over the vocal duties.

“I had known Michael quite a long time and he always mentioned that we should do a death metal project one day, but I never took him too seriously because he was so busy with Volbeat,” Grewe says. “Then he called for real and said, ‘Yeah, I want to do it now. Are you up for it?’ Immediately, I was ‘Yes, of course!'”
