Mortem was founded in 1987 in Oslo, Norway and released with ‘Slow Death’ a demo that found some fans in the world of heavy metal. The demo didn’t leave the undergound but had an impact on extreme metal. It became quite with musicians joining7starting other bands and the question if Mortem still existing or not was answered in 2019. After having inked a deal with Peaceville Records, Mortem release their full-length debut ‘Ravnsvart’ after 35 years, which sounds like world record for longest time span between foundation and debut album.
On February 18th, Peaceville Records re-issues the demo ‘Slow Death’. Fully re-recorded and re-worked Mortem presents songs that showcase the raw energy of underground black metal. Hoarse vocals, blazing riff and a merciless rhythm is drives the five songs from the demo plus ‘Satanas’, an older Mortem track and ‘Likferd’ which is Funeral Fog cover version.
The ones that missed the demo in the late ‘80s get a chance to catch up too. The demo is part of this release. The death metal aspect is coming more to forefront and it’s pure musical anarchy that became a starting point for Norwegian extreme metal.
