Review NAKED GYPSY QUEENS ‘Georgiana’ – EP

The first release of a new powerhouse will find its way to the record stores on February 11th. Naked Gypsy Queens is the name of the band and ‘Georgiana’ is the title of an EP that features five songs. Rooted in hard rock of the ‘60s and ‘70s, the band ignites a rock’n’roll firework.

The Tennessee-based band has its start in a time when all four band members still were in High School and the only way to play music was to plug-in and perform live in front of an audience. Such an experience is a solid base for more, a step the bands takes right here and now. A few years later, the quartet steps into the spotlight and presents an EP that makes hearts leap for joy.

‘Georgiana’ was recorded in Detroit. Live takes, that was the means of choice and the sound of ‘Georgiana’ benefits from it. The record has a vibrant and lively sound. Next to that, the EP also includes a lot of heart and soul of which the slowly rolling ‘Wolves’ is one example. The guitar-driven song has a darker vibe and a bit of bluesy melancholy swings with each note.

Next to the calmer moments, Naked Gypsy Queens can also unleash the rock beast. The beat-based title track shows this very well and the following ‘Down to the Devil’ shows that the quartet inhales the groove from the early heydays of rock music. Stripped down and still benefiting from a rich sound, Naked Gypsy Queens surf through these 19 minutes of passionate music. And the fact of Alice Cooper and Wayne Kramer visiting the guys in the studio was an extra motivation factor for bringing the roots of hard rock to the here and now.

Naked Gypsy Queens release an EP that certainly helps the guys to establish them on a dense market, filled with retro music. The benefit of this EP though is the fact of unbound creative freedom. These guys started from zero and if they continue to follow their self-chosen path, the future will be bright. ‘Georgiana’ is the first leg on this journey, and it is a very promising one.
