Udo Dirkschneider started his career with Accept. With his raspy voice and his outfit, the singer quickly became an iconic player in the fields of heavy metal. After having left the Solingen-based metal band, Dirkschneider could maintain the success when starting with U.D.O. an impressive solo career. During the last years the singer established with Dirkschneider an outfit, lasering in on the old Accept days and not being out of new ideas, the frontman worked on an EP called ‘Arising’.

This time, the project is called Dirkschneider & The Old Gang and includes some of the former companions. Bassist Peter Baltes is part of this project as well as Stefan Kaufmann on guitar. Mathias Dieth, known from U.D.O. as well as Sinner is handling the second guitar while Dirkschneider jr., Sven, is providing the heartbeat with his hard-hitting drum sound. A great addition to the quintet is singer Manuela Bibert. Her vocals are in contrast with Dirkschneider’s hoarse voice and still both go together extremely well. The opener ‘Face of a Stranger’ manifests this in great fashion. The song is a pounding metal anthem in the tradition of Accept and U.D.O. and at the same time doesn’t shy away from a stellar chorus that catches you right away.

The idea of Dirkschneider & The Old Gang was born in 2019 while working on the ‘U.D.O. & Das Musikcorps der Bundeswehr’ release. This was the kickstart that brought people together and the upcoming pandemic was another moment that intensified the willingness for doing such an EP. With the intention to support artist during the lockdown time this release is more than just a project. It is a charitable project at the same time that provides great heavy metal for fans.

Hopefully Dirkschneider & The Old Gang isn’t just a one-time undertaking. Each of the three songs belong to the best German heavy metal has offered since quite a while and it is working on a full-length album would be a great undertaking that would be appreciated by fans of Teutonic metal.
