CD review NERVOSA ‘Perpetual Chaos’

We know that Brazil provides not only samba music but also excellent thrash metal, especially since Sepultura had their big breakthrough in the late 80s. Since 2010 Nervosa is also been rocking the scene and released in 2014 with ‘Victim of Yourself’ a remarkable debut.

2020 was a special year for the band, not only from a COVID point of view. Prika Amaral, the brain behind the band, had to change the line-up and basically renew the band.

With Mia Wallace, Eleni Nota and Diva Satanica three new members were found and with new power the band dedicated itself to the new album ‘Perpetual Chaos’. A total of 13 songs have found a spot on the album and what the four ladies deliver is massive. Already with ‘Venemous’ it becomes evident that the new album is certainly not a step backwards. Massive riff power, aggressive vocals, growls and a hard working rhythm section give Nervosa’s new album a brutal punch.

Nervosa really push the pedal to the metal and no song reaches the four minute mark. Highlights are the frantic ‘Time to Fight’, ‘Genocidal Command’ with its furious leads and ‘Under Ruins’, which starts Slayer-esque and evolves into a mid-tempo metal monster.

‘Perpetual Chaos’ is thrash metal in its purest form. Nervosa shows a dynamic and enthusiasm that is remarkable and it is to be hoped that the quartet will stay together for a longer period of time.
