CD review NIGHT LASER ‘Power to Power’

If you see promo photos of a band that walks through the Alter Elbtunnel you have a direct link to where these guys are at home. The tunnel is a landmark in Hamburg, Germany and that’s where Night Laser has its headquater.

The guys premiered six years ago with ‘Fight for the Night’. ‘Laserhead’ followed two years later and after having inked a deal with Out Of Line Music, the third album is ready to rock the world … or at least some parts of the world.

Now, it might be that not all the cylinders of Hamburg’s Glam Metal engine run smoothly all the time and there are certainly bands that have more frills embedded. The glam factor with Night Laser though is high. Outfit, lyrics and music fit together very well and you can hear on their new album that the quartet has fun and do what they love, playing Metal of the ’80s.

‘Power to Power’ is an album for metalheads that appreciate a solid riff, a catchy melody and sing-a-long chorus. Night Laser’s third album offers all of it. Frontman Ben faces some challenges with the high-pitch screams (‘Satao’) and still the album has enough firepower for Rock’n’Roll party. ‘Prime Minister of Rock’n’Roll’, nomen et omen, is one of these songs that provides such a good time and makes you forget problems of daily life. The brisk title track is another example for Night Laser’s power and in case you prefer a moderate paced Metal anthem you can drop the needle at ‘Kiss Me Today’. I should not forget to mention the opener ‘Street King’, the wildest song on the album and a real bang in the beginning. Tankard’s Gerre adds some vocal parts to the song, helping the album to get out of the gates really well.

Night Laser might not be in the same league as bands like Steel Panther and Kissin’ Dynamite…yet, but it’s their passion and authenticity that lifts ‘Power to Power’ to a good record. If Benno, Tony, Robert and Jonas continue to evolve their music and keep their spirit alive, the future could become glamorous.
