CD review BRANT BJORK ‘Brant Bjork’

A bit of an ease in strange and uncertain times can't be a bad thing and former Kyuss drummer Brant Bjork delivers the soundtrack. With 'Brant Bjork' the multi-instrumentalist unveils an album that combines desert- and heavy rock in a really good fashion. Not the harsh riffs and pounding beats are what makes this album... CD review THE SPIRIT CABINET ‘ Bloodlines’

Already the bandname is unusal and also the sound of 'Bloodlines' isn't mainstream either. Dutch metallers The Spirit Cabinet combine traditional Heavy Metal with Doom Metal, not to forget an underlaying psychedelic vibe that resonates with each of the six songs on the new album 'Bloodlines'. Snake McRuffkin, Johnny Hällström, Erich Vilsmeier and Cromwell Fleedwood... Continue Reading →

CD review KING WITCH ‘Body of Light’

King Witch, that's Laura Donnelly (v), Jamie Gilchrist (g), Rory Lee (b) and Lyle Brown. CD review CHRONUS ‘Idols’

'Idols' is an album of a band that could firm under a logo saying 'Youth Gone Wild'. Talent, passion and savvy, that's what the four guys express via songs that are impressive. Hard Rock and Metal fuses on this album to an irresistible mix that you shouldn't miss. I guess this is just the beginning and we will hear more of Chronus in the near future. These guys came to stay.

CD review NIGHTWISH ‘HUMAN. :II: NATURE.’

Nightwish add with 'HUMAN. :II: NATURE.' their most mature album to their long list of musical achievements. Supported by an excellent production the Symphonic Metal spearhead brings songs to the plate, wowing from start to end. Although things seem to be planned to detail, there is still ease embedded that makes the album to a stellar listening experience. Bombast Symphonic Metal can't sound much better than what 'HUMAN. :II: NATURE.' offers. This album lifts the bar to a level that will not be reached that easily, maybe not even by Nightwish anymore.

CD review BLACK HAWK ‘Destination Hell’

Hamburg's Metal veterans Black Hawk deliver with 'Destination Hell' an album that isn't polished neither it's over-produced. It has a solid sound and a lot of edges. The ten songs might not bring that much new to the plate. Still they are authentic and real. No frills, some thrills and a lot of passion, that's Black Hawk's new album. If you like traditional Heavy Metal straight from the underground you should give the album a chance.

CD review TRAVELER ‘Termination Shock’

With 'Terminal Shock' Canadian metaller Traveler add a next album to their discography. The band, hailing from Calgary, premiered a year ago with 'Traveler' and it's the sophomore longplayer 'Termination Shock' unveiling again their passion for traditional Heavy Metal. Being enrooted in the spirit of the NWoHM, the sound of Traveler reflects pure Heavy Metal.... Continue Reading →

CD review LOVIATAR ‘Lightless’

'Lightless' is a well-done counterpart to the brighter days of spring. The quartet paints a claustrophobic musical picture with a lyrical concept, inspired by authors like Emile Zola and Thomas Ligotti. If you want to discover the depth of darkness, 'Lightless' is the album you should listen to.

CD review PALACE ‘Reject the System’

Palace, that's not a new player in Metal, considering the fact of seven releases to date. The guys from Speyer, Germany startet 30 years ago and the fact that they are still releasing records shows willpower and staying power. 'Reject the System' is the newest release that reaches us from Speyer, featuring ten tracks of... Continue Reading →

CD review DYNAZTY ‘The Dark Delight’

In some of my earlier reviews I referred to the great sense of Swedish Rock bands for hooklines and melodies. Dynazty isn't an exception. The new longplayer 'The Dark Delight' is filled with a lot of this key ingredient without solely relying on it. The band, that started in 2008 in Stockholm, uses great melodies... Continue Reading →

CD review AXXIS ‘Virus of a Modern Time’

Bernhard Weiss and band mates show that new situations demand adjusted game plans. 'Virus of a Modern Time' isn't the result of a longterm planning process. It's an EP with great songs that have been reactivated, acting as some musical sun-rays in days of darkness.
